More About Larry
Larry has worked for over thirty years counselling individuals, couples and families, whether as a congregational clergy, or as a clinician in private therapy practices, hospitals, prisons, and nursing homes. In times of sickness, loss, emotional pain and relationship stress he has brought families hope and meaning with his warmth, compassion and insight.
At the heart of all Larry’s work is a client-centered approach which emphasizes respect, authenticity and acceptance. Larry is passionate about helping families and couples and works mindfully to help them transform their lives together. He supports individual clients in enhancing self-esteem, healing through loss, and finding solutions to life’s heavy problems.
Larry uses a variety of current therapeutic models. With couples, Larry draws on the Gottman Relationship Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. With individuals Larry utilizes Schema, Acceptance-Commitment, Solution Focused, Narrative and Logotherapy.
Most importantly, Larry’s work is informed by his own personal life challenges, including separation and divorce, blended family life, aging parents, loss through death, parenting teenagers, and career change. Larry welcomes people of all faiths, world views and backgrounds, ages and sexual orientations. When Larry is not counselling he is riding his bike, running a half marathon, reading at Aroma or visiting his nine grandchildren.

Q&A
-
From a young age I was interested in social justice issues and understanding the systemic factors that shape us. For over 30 years, I was a clergy person—people came to me during some of the hardest moments of their lives. I sat with families in crisis, couples in conflict, individuals facing loss, doubt, or major life transitions.
Eventually, I made the decision to focus fully on that part of the work. Becoming a therapist felt like a natural next step. It allowed me to bring all those years of experience into a new role, while deepening my training and understanding of how to support people through change. I’ve also been in the client chair myself, so I know how powerful it can be to have someone walk alongside you when life feels heavy. That’s what I try to offer now—steadiness, honesty, and a genuine belief that healing and growth are always possible.

Relationships are one of the most important—and most challenging—parts of our lives. I’ve seen firsthand how much pain can come from disconnection, and also how powerful it can be when two people start to really understand and respond to each other differently.
Over the years, I’ve worked with countless couples who felt stuck, unheard, or on the brink of giving up. Helping them find a way back to each other—or forward in a healthier direction—is some of the most meaningful work I do.
